The famous "boots" exhibit comes to Palo Alto. Los Altos Voices for Peace is one of several sponsoring organiations. Details:

Eyes Wide Open Comes to Palo Alto
     Saturday, May 3, 10am - Sunday, May 4, 6pm
Kings Plaza, corner of Hamilton & Ramona, Palo Alto

Eyes Wide Open, the American Friends Service Committee’s widely-acclaimed exhibition on the human cost of the Iraq War, features a pair of boots honoring each U.S. military casualty from California (about 450), a labyrinth of civilian shoes to memorialize the Iraqis killed in the conflict, and a display exploring the history, cost and consequences of the war.

Individuals, families and friends are invited to honor and grieve for lost loved ones and strangers, near and far. The exhibit creates a place for prayer, meditation, reflection, sorrow and commitment to build a world of peace.

Most of the time the vigil area is silent, with occasional quiet prayers, music, and conversation. To learn more about the exhibit see the attached flyer.

Important: To volunteer for a 2-hour shift with a team of 4 at the exhibit go to http://www1.mysignup.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?datafile=vigilvolunteers
(Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the sign-up field.)

You can donate civilian shoes to honor civilian casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. See the flyer for information on where to drop them off.

In any case, please drop by and participate in this moving tribute to lost and damaged lives.
