[lavplist] Five Years of War: An LAVP Response

LAVP Members and Friends,

Two important events coming up.  First, March 19 will be the fifth anniversary of the Iraq war, and LAVP is sponsoring a commemorative event with a new twist.  Rather than simply "vigil" at the Clock Tower Plaza, we will meet at the Plaza and conduct a "Peace Walk" through downtown Los Altos.  Wearing black arm bands, we will walk quietly and somberly, and provide fliers about the war to people we encounter on the walk.

Another departure from past rallies and vigils is that this event will take place at 12 NOON, or Wednesday, March 19, when we can gain maximum visibility for our cause.  Please join us and bring a friend.

A second event worth your attention is a lecture by Audrey Shabbas, Director of Arab World and Islamic Resources (AWAIR).  It is scheduled for Wednesday, April 2 at 7 PM, in the Program Room at the Los Altos Library.  

Sponsored by Los Altos Voices for Peace and the Los Altos Public Library, Ms. Shabbas's presentation will focus on an historical event of great significance today.  She will be discussing "Beyond Tolerance:  When Muslims, Christians and Jews Built a Great Civilization in Spain."  You will find her presentation informative and inspiring.
