and Islamic Resources. Information: <http://www.losaltospeace.org/>

www.awaironline.org.

Meeting Notes: Karen Lemes facilitated the meeting. The inspiration
presented by John Lemes was from a talk by William Perry, former
Secretary of State, and his personal goal of destroying nuclear weapons
through non-partisan efforts. He has helped destroy 10,000 nuclear
warheads in the world.

Reports: The Feb 15 protest at the recruiting office attracted about 50
people & about 12 counter-protesters. Unfortunately there were some
shouting matches and apparently a person was pushed by a Raging Granny.
Press coverage was negative.

Some LAVP members plan to attend the Palo Alto protest this Saturday
(see above) and bring the LAVP banner. Flyers advertising our Peace
Walk may be distributed there.

March 19 LAVP Peace Walk committee met. Flyers were distributed.
Printed signs were shown with messages: All start with "5 YEARS in
IRAQ" followed by one of these 4 messages: 4,000 U.S. Soldiers Killed,
90,000 Iraqi Civilian Deaths, 29,000 U.S. Soldiers Wounded, Cost...$500
Billion. LAVP is providing all the signs for the Peace Walk. It will
start at Singer Plaza, Noon and walk up Main to First & then down State
to the plaza. We expect Karen Meredith, Gold Star Mom to speak for a
few minutes before the walk. Kevin has notified the Police Dept of our
plans.

March 19 7 PM Candlelight Vigil (listed on Moveon.) at Singer Plaza,
hosted by a Los Altos Hills resident who attended this meeting. Some in
attendance offered to help her.

For the April 2 Library Talk, beautiful flyers printed by the library
were distributed. More publicity is planned. One small table at the
entrance will have cookies and Darwin will check with Friends of the
Library about providing coffee and hot water. We will start close to 7
PM instead of leaving time for people to eat. LAVP literature and our
email sign-up list will be available. Barbara K reported that the
library wants to co-sponsor events and has been very supportive. Rob
will be asked to video the event.

Barbara K also wrote to William Perry inviting him to speak in Los
Altos. The library would happily co-sponsor such a talk.

Continued leafleting at the Cal Train depots, part of the Iraq
Moratorium, is a waste of time since the same people use the train every
month. So reported those leafleting for a 2nd time.

March 22 MVVP event, no further information was known.

Treasurer's Report: There are $762 in unrestricted funds and $500 for
the Peace Scholarship.

LAVP Website: Rob has redesigned it, <http://www.losaltospeace.org/>
www.losaltospeace.org . Please check it and report your comments! A
visitor asked a friend about redesigning the LAVP site. It would cost
about $600. A special collection would need to be started to pay for
it. More information was requested.

Larissa Keet Memorial Scholarship at Foothill: A committee of 4 - 5
LAVP members will meet on March 18 to read the 11 applications and
recommend the top four. Final selection is at the end of March, by
Foothill College.

Counter-recruitment: Will be discussed next meeting.

Los Altos Community Picnic, Sunday, Sept 7: Ray reported that Katrina
will again assist the organizing committee.

Ideas presented to promote peace:

1. Hold signs in front of churches stating: "One must do more than
pray for peace."

2. Add "Rebuild Iraq through international cooperation" to lists of
actions the LAVP supports.

3. Write more letters to the editor!

Karen Lemes will facilitate the next meeting. Notes by Donna Poulos.
