A reminder: The dramatic "Boots" exhibit comes to Palo Alto this weekend. It will include a reading of the names of California and Iraqi war victims on Sunday.
Los Altos Voices for Peace is a co-sponsor.
We still need vigil volunteers (see how to sign up below) AND a trumpet or bugle player to play "Taps" at 8 p.m. Saturday. If you know of any players, please let us know.
Eyes Wide Open Comes to Palo Alto
Saturday, May 3, 10am - Sunday, May 4, 6pm
Kings Plaza, corner of Hamilton & Ramona, Palo Alto
Eyes Wide Open, the American Friends Service Committeeâs widely-acclaimed exhibition on the human cost of the Iraq War, features a pair of boots honoring each U.S. military casualty from California (about 450), and a labyrinth of civilian shoes to memorialize the Iraqis killed in the conflict.
Individuals, families and friends are invited to honor and grieve for lost loved ones and strangers, near and far. The exhibit creates a place for sorrow and commitment to build a world of peace.
Important: To volunteer for a 2-hour shift with a team of 4 at the exhibit go to http://www1.mysignup.com/cgi-bin/view.cgi?datafile=vigilvolunteers
(Scroll to the bottom of the page to see the sign-up field.)
You can donate civilian shoes to honor civilian casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. See the attached flyer for information on where to drop them off.
In any case, please drop by and participate in this moving tribute to lost and damaged lives...OR sign up as a volunteer to help.
